Bible Seminar—The Last Supper & the Passover

In July 2017, a group of 9 Korean exchange students from the International University Bible Academy (IUBA) arrived in Singapore. Hoping to spend their school holidays meaningfully, they decided to contribute to the gospel work in Singapore. During their stay, they collaborated with the university students of the World Mission Society Church of God Singapore (SGWMSCOG) to organize a Bible Seminar titled “The Last Supper & the Passover” on Jul 23, 2017.

Blessings contained in the Passover

Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ is one of the world’s most famous paintings. It depicts the Passover, where Jesus had His last meal with His disciples before He was crucified (Luke 22:19-20). Why did Jesus choose to spend the last few hours before His death keeping the Passover with His disciples? The Passover contains the blessing of eternal life.

John 6:53-54  …Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

Over the years, the average life expectancy has increased from 45 years to 70 years. The dramatic increase in average life expectancy ranks as one of society’s greatest achievements. Despite living in a golden age of technology, human beings have yet to achieve immortality.

However, Jesus has given us the promise of eternal life through the Passover.

Luke 22:15  …“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”

If the Passover is not necessary, why did Jesus eagerly desire to keep it? It is not merely a law of the Old Testament, but it is God’s will to save us.
