The 790th Worldwide Blood Drive to Give Life Through the Love of the Passover

On Apr 30, 2017, the World Mission Society Church of God Singapore (SGWMSCOG) held its 790th Worldwide Blood Drive to Give Life through the Love of the Passover at the Health Science Authority (HSA) located at Outram Park.

This blood drive is an international effort of all the Church of God worldwide. The Bible testifies that Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross to establish the New Covenant Passover, granting sinners eternal life. Through the annual blood drive, the church members want to follow Christ’s example in saving lives by giving blood to those in need.

Currently, only 1.87% of Singapore’s population donate blood, and each unit of blood donated has only a short shelf-life of six weeks. The SGWMSCOG recognises the lack of blood supply in Singapore and hopes to ease the situation.

In cooperation with the Singapore Red Cross Society, the event was made successful by the sponsorship of Shangri-La Hotel, Sheng Siong Supermarket, Kraft Heinz, Dunkin’ Donuts, Owl Coffee, Frangipani Homes, 8Tarts n Pastries, Baker’s Heart and T&J.

“By giving blood, donors aren’t only saving the lives of the patients who receive their blood, they’re also helping to keep families together while inspiring other donors to step forward to give blood,” said Robert Teo, Head of the Blood Donor Recruitment Programme, Singapore Red Cross.

“We are grateful for World Mission Society’s strong support of the National Blood Programme. The volunteers have built a life-saving legacy that their church and community can be proud of. A big “Thank You” to them for their amazing efforts!”

In preparation for the blood drive, church members reached out to their neighbours, friends and families to attend this meaningful event.

Neo Wen Lin, one of the cast members, 20, commented “This is a very meaningful event to share love through blood donation. Through the skit, we want to encourage people to donate blood and also to share the reason why the World Mission Society Church of God holds these blood drive events. It is because Jesus Christ has set us an example of sharing love and giving us spiritual life through His blood.”

To introduce the invited donors about the church, a mini-exhibition was also set up. It showcased the church’s history, its beliefs and some basic Bible truths.

Faith Lim, participant, 27, commented “I feel very happy and excited donating blood for the first time. Just like the Bible teaches us that we can receive spiritual life through Jesus’ blood, we want to take this opportunity to donate our blood to save lives too.”

Sandra Tan, participant, 18, shared “Last year, I was sad that I could not donate. Thanks to Father and Mother, everything went well this year and I was able to donate. My iron count was also higher than usual, so I was pleasantly surprised. I am very thankful to Father and Mother for giving us this opportunity to save lives.”

Following the Teachings of Mother “It is more blessed to give than to receive, as God always gives love” the members of the SGWMSCOG also aims to share love, life and hope by giving blood to individuals in need.
