Located on the banks of the Siak River, Pekanbaru is the capital of Riau Province in Indonesia. It has a population of about 1 million people. Pekanbaru covers an area of 632.26km², forming the third most populous city on Sumatra Island1)2).The majority religion in this city is Islam, followed by Christianity and Buddhism. Most of the people living in Pekanbaru communicate in Bahasa Indonesia. As it lies across the equator, the weather in Pekanbaru is always hot and humid.

From Aug 27 to Sep 03, 2017, 7 members of the World Mission Church of God Singapore (SGWMSCOG) flew to Pekanbaru in hopes of finding our lost brothers and sisters. With the resolution to save souls on this island, we were all excited and determined to deliver the truth of Heavenly Father and Mother to whomever we met.

On the day we arrived, we started off the short-term mission with door-to-door preaching. Not wanting to miss a single house, we walked through every lane and alley we could see. The scorching sun was almost unbearable, and we were always sweating profusely because of the heat. However, it did not deter our eagerness to seek our lost brothers and sisters. Through this, we could understand a bit of Heavenly Father’s sacrifice and His burning heart to save a soul.

Most of the Christians we met were already baptised and claimed that they keep the ‘Passover’ on Easter Sunday. With an eager mind, we explained with our limited Bahasa Indonesia that we have to be baptised in the New Name. The New Name is the name of the Holy Spirit in this age (Matthew 28:19, Revelation 3:12). We should also keep the Passover on the 14th day of the first month according to the sacred calendar (Leviticus 23:4-5).

Although we faced many rejections, we encouraged and cheered one another up. We got rid of our own thoughts, trusting in God who will lead us to souls thirsting for the truth. People started to stop and listen to the words of God. To us, leading a soul into the truth was more precious than anything else in the world.

Apart from the newly found brothers and sisters, we also met a brother who stopped coming to church due to persecution. After he left the church, he thought to himself that he will return if he meets our members again on the streets. By God’s grace, he immediately came back with us and studied the Bible again. We were so thankful to see such miracle. God is truly working behind the scenes.

Though it was only 7 days, we were all left in awe seeing how God has allowed many souls to the truth. Until the day Heavenly Father comes and brings us back to the kingdom of heaven, we will continue to proclaim the truth as God’s faithful warriors.
