Passover: Can We Enter Heaven Just By Believing in Jesus?
October 15, 2016
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternallife.
This is a widely popular verse, familiar to many Christians. However, can faith alone truly lead you to salvation or allow us to enter heaven?
Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of myFather who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your nameperform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Jesus mentioned that only those who do His will can enter heaven. This implies that there should be action and faith. As it is written inthe book of James:
James 2:14-19 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing abouttheir physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; Ihave deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believethat—and shudder.
Even demons believe in God. Yet, will they be able to enter the kingdom of heaven? What is the way to enter heaven?
Matthew 19:17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep thecommandments.”
John 6:53-54 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no lifein you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
The way to receive eternal life is by eating Jesus’ flesh and drinking His blood. How then, can we eat Jesus’ flesh and drink His Blood?
Matthew 26:17-19, 26-28 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want usto make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near.I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house’.” So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover… While theywere eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took acup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many forthe forgiveness of sins.”
The feast of life, the way to receive eternal life, is only through the feast of the new covenant—Passover. Now, it is only theWorld Mission Society Church of God which keeps the Passover that Jesus kept 2,000 years ago. Let us believe in Jesus and keep the Passover to enter thekingdom of heaven!
