Passover: The Safest Place

Many prophecies of the Bible have been fulfilled. Among the prophecies that still remain, there is a prophecy that the earth will be in a precarious situation.

The earth in a dangerous situation

Isaiah 24:1-6 See, the Lord is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; he will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants… The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The Lord has spoken this word. The earth dries up and withers… Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.

The Bible prophesied that this will happen in the near future. From bomb shelters, underground cities and even exploring habitable planets beyond the earth, there are many news reports in the recent years about people trying to protect themselves against these dangerous circumstances.

In the book of Amos, written in around 750 B.C., the Bible mentions that people will make efforts to get away from these circumstances, but will not be able to escape.

Amos 9:1-4 I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said… Not one will get away, none will escape. Though they dig down to the depths below, from there my hand will take them. Though they climb up to the heavens above, from there I will bring them down. Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, there I will hunt them down and seize them. Though they hide from my eyes at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent to bite them. Though they are driven into exile by their enemies, there I will command the sword to slay them.“I will keep my eye on them for harm and not for good.”

Thankfully, the Bible prophesied that there will be a safe place on earth.

A Safe Place

Jeremiah 4:5-6 “Announce in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem and say: ‘Sound the trumpet throughout the land!’ Cry aloud and say: ‘Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities!’ Raise the signal to go to Zion! Flee for safety without delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, even terrible destruction.”

The prophet Jeremiah proclaimed that people should go to Zion where safety is found. As such, we must know the location of Zion because it is the safest place on earth. What kind of place is Zion?

Isaiah 33:20 (NKJV) Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts; Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet home, A tabernacle that will not be taken down; Not one of its stakes will ever be removed, Nor will any of its cords be broken.

Zion is the place where God’s feasts are kept. God has appointed feasts that His people should observe (Leviticus 23:1-44), and among them, there is the Passover.

Disasters pass over

Exodus 12: 10-14 … Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover. “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. “This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.

In the time of Exodus, those who observed the Passover according to God’s regulations were protected from disasters. In fact, God declared disasters will pass over and no destructive plague will touch those who keep the Passover. God, who knows the end from beginning, has given mankind the perfect solution for these perilous circumstances. In this age, God also showed his people the way to observe the Passover.

Passover in the New Covenant

Luke 22:7-8,15 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.” … And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

Before Jesus was crucified on the cross, He instructed His disciples to prepare the Passover and observed it with them.

Luke 22:19-20 and he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, “This is my body given for you; do this in remember of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you

On the 14th day of the first month according to the sacred calendar (Leviticus 23:4-5), Jesus established the Passover of the new covenant. We observe the Passover by partaking in the bread and wine which symbolizes Jesus’ flesh and blood.

Among many blessings we can receive by keeping the Passover, God promised His people to be protected from disasters. Let us go to Zion, the safest place on earth, and keep the Passover so that we can receive God’s protection!
