The Mystery of Melchizedek

We found out that Jesus Christ came to fulfill the prophecy of Melchizedek in the article “Who is Melchizedek”, the priest of God whom appeared in the Old Testament times. Exploring further into the characteristics of Melchizedek in the book of Hebrews, we can find a mystery about him.

Hebrews 7:1-3 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace”. Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

About two thousand years ago when Jesus came as the high priest in the order of Melchizedek, there were some prophetical points about Melchizedek that were not completely fulfilled by Jesus:

Melchizedek

i) ‘Without father or mother’

The Bible indicates that Melchizedek was “without father or mother”. However, is there anybody who is born without parents? In Jesus’ spiritual perspective, only those who do the will of God are regarded as parents or family members.

Matthew 12:46-50 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

For Melchizedek to be “without father or mother” implies that Jesus must be born to parents who did not do the will of God nor have faith in God. However, Jesus was born of Joseph and Mary who were both believers. Thus, Jesus did not fulfill being ‘without father or mother’.

ii) ‘Without genealogy’

There is nobody on earth who does not belong to a genealogy³. In the Bible, genealogy refers to the genealogy of Israel. The genealogy of Jesus Christ can be found at the beginning of the book of Matthew since he was a descendant of Abraham.

³ A line of descent traced continuously from an ancestor

Matthew 1:1-16 This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob… Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.

Jesus clearly belongs to the genealogy of Israel. However, Melchizedek is to be ‘without genealogy’. Thus, Jesus Christ cannot be said to be ‘without genealogy’.

iii) ‘Without beginning of days or end of life’

God the Almighty Creator is described as the only being who is without beginning of days or end of life. To be “without beginning of days or end of life” implies that the priest who comes in the order of Melchizedek must be God Himself. Jesus who came as the Christ is God Himself who brought out bread and wine and established the Passover for the forgiveness of sins.

However, he is neither ‘without father or mother’ nor ‘without genealogy’. This was why it was hard to explain Melchizedek in the time of the early church. In order to fulfill all the prophecies of Melchizedek, there are prophecies regarding the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The Second Coming of Jesus

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

The Bible prophesies that Christ will appear a second time. When He comes again, He must fulfill all the prophetical points about Melchizedek – to be born of parents who are unbelievers and not to be listed in the Hebrew genealogy. As the high priest in the order of Melchizedek, he must present bread and wine to grant blessings, which is to establish the New Covenant Passover as Jesus did. The one who does this is none other that God Himself, who is ‘without beginning of days or end of life’.

The Passover of the new covenant which Jesus established was abolished in A.D. 325 (see Passover: Changed in History for more details). However, Christ Ahnsahnghong restored the truth of the Passover again in this age. The one who fulfilled the prophecy regarding Melchizedek completely is Christ Ahnsahnghong.

Christ Ahnsahnghong was born in Korea and is not listed in the genealogy of Israel. He was also born to parents who are unbelievers. Most distinctively, he brought the sign of Melchizedek, blessing with bread and wine — the  Passover of the new covenant to bless mankind with the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

Please receive the prophetical Melchizedek who appears in this last age. Come to the World Mission Society Church of God to keep the New Covenant Passover established by the prophetical Melchizedek, Christ Ahnsahnghong!
