The Spirit and the Bride: Revealing the True Source of Eternal Life
December 16, 2025
Throughout the Bible, the promise of eternal life is expressed through one beautiful symbol — the water of life. From the prophets to Revelation, this living water represents the salvation that only God can give. Understanding who gives the water of life reveals who gives eternal life — and ultimately, who God is in these last days.
1. The Water of Life Symbolizes Eternal Life
Jesus often described eternal life as living water.
He said to the Samaritan woman at the well:
John 4:14 “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Here, the “water” Jesus gives leads directly to eternal life. It’s not ordinary water; it’s the spiritual life that flows from God.
Again, in John 7:37–38, Jesus declared:
John 7:37–38 “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
The Apostle John explains that this “living water” referred to the Holy Spirit — the source of eternal life that only God can give (John 7:39).
In both verses, the water of life is inseparable from eternal life. To receive this water is to receive salvation itself.
2. Only God Can Give Eternal Life
The Bible consistently testifies that eternal life and salvation belong to God alone.
No human, prophet, or church has the authority to give life — only the Creator does.
Psalm 62:1 “Salvation comes from God.”
Isaiah 43:11 “I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.”
John 10:28 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
John 17:3 “This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
From beginning to end, God is the sole giver of eternal life. Therefore, anyone who gives the “water of life” — the symbol of eternal life — must be God Himself.
3. Jerusalem: Source of the Water of Life
In the Old Testament, the prophet Ezekiel saw a vision of water flowing from the temple, bringing life wherever it went:
Ezekiel 47:1–12 “I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple… Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”
This water, flowing from the temple, gives life to all creation — a prophecy of the life-giving power that will come from God’s dwelling place.
The prophet Jeremiah also revealed that at the appointed time, Jerusalem would be called the throne of the Lord:
Jeremiah 3:17 “At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the Lord, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honor the name of the Lord.”
These prophecies reveal that the life-giving water would flow from Jerusalem, which would be called God’s throne.
4. The Bride and the Spirit Give the Water of Life
Revelation fulfills these ancient prophecies.
Revelation 22:17 “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ … Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”
At the end of the Bible, the Spirit (God the Father) and the Bride together give the water of life — eternal life.
Since only God can give this water, the Bride must also be God.
Then who is the Bride?
Revelation 21:9–10 “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb… and he showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.”
The Bride is identified as the Heavenly Jerusalem, who comes down from heaven to give the water of life.
5. Heavenly Jerusalem: Our Mother and Life Giver
The Apostle Paul testifies clearly who this Jerusalem is:
Galatians 4:26 “But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.”
Paul reveals that the heavenly Jerusalem is not symbolic of a place, but a divine being — our Mother.
If we are God’s children (Romans 8:16–17), then our spiritual life must come from our spiritual Mother.
Just as physical life comes from a physical mother, eternal life comes from our spiritual Mother, the Bride, who appears in the last days with the Spirit to give the water of life.
6. The Reality of Jerusalem Above: God the Mother
Putting all these verses together:
- The water of life means eternal life (John 4:14).
- Only God can give eternal life (Isaiah 43:11; John 10:28).
- The water of life flows from Jerusalem, the throne of God (Ezekiel 47:1–12; Jeremiah 3:17).
- The Bride, the Heavenly Jerusalem, gives the water of life with the Spirit (Revelation 22:17).
- The Heavenly Jerusalem is our Mother (Galatians 4:26).
Therefore, the reality of Jerusalem — our Mother — is God, the source of the water of life.
She appears together with the Spirit in the last days to call all people to come and receive eternal life.
Conclusion: The Bride of Revelation Is God
The message of the Bible is consistent and complete:
The water of life represents eternal life, and only God can give it.
Since the Bride in the Book of Revelation — the Heavenly Jerusalem — gives the water of life with the Spirit, She is divine. She is not symbolic of the Church or a people, but the Mother of the saints, the source of eternal life, the reality of the Jerusalem above.
